Software developer intern for intelligent tracking of wild animals with UAVs at Flox

We are a tiny start-up with giant ambitions looking for one or more interns with experience in robotics and computer vision. In the role you will work as a software engineer with the goal of developing algorithms for making our robots (drones) more intelligent and efficient.

What you get:

You will work with our development team to find the best possible solutions to solve the problems caused by wild animals in agriculture. You will improve your knowledge and skills by developing new algorithms and testing them on real scenarios.

You will be working right alongside our growth-oriented team and will have the opportunity to learn about new technological advancements and their implementations. We provide guidance and support, as well as a unique work experience and contacts in the industry.

About us:

At Flox, we develop AI and autonomous UAV systems to repel wild animals from cultivated fields and infrastructure.

We are part of the KTH Innovation Pre-incubator Program where you will have access to office space, community activities, business development coach and support.

Internship Focus:

The internship regards the implementation of an algorithm that allows a UAV to track and follow a target given a visual input (thermal or rgb camera). The final goal is to use this system to track and follow wild animals in crops.

The first task will be to keep the target in the center of the field of view of the drone, using basic computer vision techniques and rotating the camera according to the target position. On top of this, another algorithm for the motion planning of the drone will be developed in order to follow the target.

In the beginning, the development will be done in our simulated environment. Then, if the algorithm is suitable, you will also be able to see its results with our drone units in a real crop environment.

We use Gazebo for the simulator and ROS and PX4 frameworks for the development of motion planning. We require the intern to be familiar with these frameworks already, in order to fasten the implementation processes.

Who you are:

You are a skilled software developer, with basic knowledge in robotics and computer vision

You are curios and motivated to take on new challenges

Good command of written and spoken English

The internship is unpaid, but for the right candidate, there are opportunities for employment after the internship. The start date and length of the internship is flexible.

If you are interested, drop us an email with your CV (max 1 page). We will get back to you within 3-5 days from receiving your application.

You can apply by emailing your CV and cover letter to by using "Intelligent tracking intern" as the email subject. We are reviewing applications on a continuous basis, so apply today!
